We have always felt his last name is a bit ironic when considering his chess style as he seems to start more fires on the chessboard than he puts out!

IT CAME AS QUITE A SURPRISE!

Although I am not really comfortable with "tooting my own horn," two veteran chess organizers / directors have asked me to prepare a short chess autobiography. Specifically, I will try to explain how I managed to score 6-0 in the 2008 US Amateur / East -- World Team Championship, after at least 20 years of trying (or hoping!) to do so. The short answer is "I have absolutely no idea!" Attempts at a rather longer answer now follow:

World Amateur Team East:

As another year passes, so does another World Amateur team. Marking Steve Doyle's 35th year with this tournament we set a new record of players with the number reaching 1,250!!!! Saturday, April 19th is Chess Day!!

April 19 is Chess Day at the library. Play all day, all over the library! Bring a set if you can--the library only has two. We're setting up a large, "garden" chess set (25" pieces) in the lobby Tuesday- Saturday, April 15th-19th, for an ongoing, public game. Drop by and make your move!
